Game drives are scheduled at your convenience. The best time for game viewing generally is from 6.30am to 8.30am and 4.00pm to 6.30pm. The route covers the Olarro Conservancy that is home to many species. Our rangers from their lookout posts together with the driver will help to track animals. Guests can also go for a day safari into the Masai Mara.

Night game drives are unique and not possible at any game reserves. Night game drives are best scheduled from 8.30pm to 10.00pm, however they can be done earlier on request. Guests can view nocturnal animals with night vision goggles. These include the White Tailed Mongoose, Bush Babies, African Kangaroo or Spring Hare, Feraux Owl and the Montane Night Jar.

The area around Olarro has many picturesque locales within its boundaries in addition to the wide variety of flora and fauna. Our guides can take photographers on a special photographic safari, to make sure they get the shots from their wish list.

Your guide will take you on a very enjoyable and informative nature walk to see and learn about different shrubs and trees that have traditional medicinal use, identify the spoor of the different animals, and review the geology in the area. Olarro is a bird watchers paradise, home to over 150 species of birds found in the area, and our guides are extremely knowledgeable on birds.

We have special mountain bikes & quad bikes (subject to availability), so guests can join the guides for bike rides along the trails in the area.

This tour allows guests to gain firsthand experience and knowledge of Masai life and culture. It includes a visit to the local Masai village to see traditional Masai homes, crafts, including beadwork and Masai customs such as the ceremonial rituals undergone when transitioning from childhood to warrior to elder. You can also see traditional Masai dances, such as the Warrior jumping contest, and experience other aspects of Masai life like fire making, spearing, and archery. These safaris are arranged on special request at the convenience of guests and our Masai hosts.

One of the highlights at Olarro that requires pre bookings is a scenic helicopter flight into the Masai Mara, taking off from the lodge’s private helicopter pad at dawn. After an exhilarating flight into the reserve, guests have the rare opportunity, depending on the season, to float over the million strong wildebeest and zebra migration in a hot air balloon, followed by a sumptuous champagne breakfast in a remote part of the Masai Mara. Guests then take the helicopter back to Olarro and have the option to fly back to Nairobi in the same helicopter.
